IFE TRAINING ACADEMY & TEST LABORATORY

(A) Training Academy :-
The Training Academy has been set up by the Institution of Fire Engineers ( India ) at Gurgaon in view of the necessity of the Community & Industries to deal with Fire Fighting & Other Emergency with competence. The Training Academy is primarily devoted to impart Scientific Training and update methods of Fire Prevention, Fire Extinction, Fire Engineering, Rescue techniques and handling of Modern Fire Fighting, Systems and equipments. The Fire Fighting caters to the needs of Industries, Commercial Institutions including public undertakings & Local Bodies. In additional the academy also imparts training to the school & college youth to provide them opportunity for employment and career development. The training Academy and Test Laboratory function under the direct control of the Board of Directors (A group of fire service senior professional and scientists from the research Organization). |

| ROLE OF THE ACADEMY & TEST LABORATORY |
| |
| The Role and duty of training Academy & Test Laboratory are:- |

To train young persons after finishing their studies in school & college in Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting, Rescue Operation, Disaster Management& First-Aid Techniques & other activities to enable them to join Factories, Fire Services of Local Bodies and States, Public under takings & Private Organizations like commercial complexes, High-rise structures Cinema houses etc. |

To train the existing Fire Service Personnel from Industry & Commercial establishment and public undertakings to keep them abreast with the latest developments and skills of Fire Fighting and Rescue. |

To conduct chemical analysis of fire extinguishing media (that is foam, dry chemical powder and gases) and evaluate their suitability as per relevant standards. |

To carry out operational performance test and evaluation of Fire Extinguishing media, Fire extinguishers and fire equipments. |

| INFRASTRUCTURE FACILITIES |
| |
| The training Centre has built up an impressive collection of teaching aids, special equipments, appliances, simulation room, technical reference books etc. The method of instructions includes lectures, films, cut-out models to make participants familiar with the application of theoretical knowledge and also to develop competency in handling the fire fighting problems independently through modern training equipment like film projector, T.V. /VCR and computer etc. |

Parade and Drill ground (approximately 60x35 meters). |

Smoke tunnel and smoke chambers. |

Fire Hydrant, Hose Reel and Sprinkler Installation. |

Cut-out models of Fire Extinguishers, Pumps and Fire Hydrant etc. |

Model room consisting of various small gears, Hydraulic cutting tools and Rescue tools etc. |

Classrooms and Offices. |

Test laboratory for Chemical & Physical tests. |

Library of Books, Journals Periodicals and Films. |

| (B) Test Laboratory:- |
| |
| The Test Laboratory have facilities for quality assurance of Fire Equipments and performance of fire extinguishing media. The laboratory will provide facility to users, fire safety equipment manufactures, consultants for their research and development work as well as third party test and certification. Fire test Laboratory has started its functioning from November 2005 and have test facilities for following items. |

Portable fire extinguishers-construction and fire performance including fire ratings for A, B and C types as per IS, ISO and UL. |

| • |
Fire Fighting foam concentrate protein, fluoroprotein, aqueous film forming foams and synthetic high and medium expansion foam as per, IS:4989 and UL. |

| • |
Dry chemical Powders, all types. |
|
| |
| Bureau of Indian Standards, defence user, oil industries aviation as well as underwriters laboratory USA and FM are being approached for approving the laboratory for certification. The accreditation process with above organizations and some more such as NABL is under way. |

| The laboratory has recently carried out operational & performance test of portable Fire Extinguishers 2Kgs & 4Kgs capacity manufactured by Integrated Foam Industries Limited Kolkata & Halon alternate vaporizing liquid (FE -36 gas) manufactured & Marketed by DU Pont (India). The Fire Extinguisher body & gas were operated& Tested in the presence of the manufacturer’s representatives from China & India . These test were carried out by the IFE Test Laboratory under the direct guidance & supervision of Shri H.S. Kaparwan renowned scientist on Halon alternates as per ISO standards. The 2 Kgs. capacity Fire Extinguisher with FE-36gas passed the performance test. |

| IFE Test Laboratory solicits supports & seeks samples of Fire Extinguishers & Fire Extinguishing medias from manufactures & users to ensure quality control & obtain certification. |

| The IFE Laboratory management invites manufactures & other interested parties to visit the laboratory or seek more information regarding available facilities. |
| |
| The Laboratory Management is seriously considering to set up a furnace & Jig room with relevant infrastructure to conduct Fire rating tests of Passive / Proactive products. |
