The Institution of Fire Engineers (India) was established in 1973 following recommendations from the Standing Fire Advisory Council, led by the Director General of Civil Defence, Home Guard & Fire Service, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Founded as a premier professional body under the Societies Act of 1860, the Institution emerged from deliberations chaired by the then Deputy Home Minister, Sh. B.N. Datar.
